2010 Soccer World Cup
Our very own Fr John Oliver was present at the combined sod-turning and blessing of the soil ceremony which took place on Tuesday, 20 March 2007. To thunderous applause, the Metropolitan Golf Club site on Green Point Common was blessed as the place where the new Green Point stadium will be built. With soil blessed by members of various faith groups and sod turned by Cape Town Mayor Helen Zille and Western Cape Premier Ebrahim Rasool, the land was handed over to joint contractors Murray & & Roberts and WBHO to start the building of the R2.8bn 68 000-seater stadium. The multi-purpose stadium should be completed in time to host a semi-final match of the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. |

RESTORATION PROJECT The first phase of the restoration programme has begun! On Monday, 9 May 2005 the first roofing sheets were removed from the church. The new roof should be finished by the middle of June. As the Church is often identified by its red roof the colour will remain the same with the old District Six profile. Check Building appeal for further details. | |
